The Legal Way Is Outside Hive
Just Under Bottom Board Entrance

WHERE You Place Them Is YOUR Responsibility

I've tried most of the vegetable oil traps. They are better than doing nothing but all have problems.
You have to wait for them to fall or get chased in giving them time to lay thousands of eggs.
The bait tubes attract them killing much quicker.
The MESS,oh the mess. For a couple of months no major problems just little oil spills, your problems will begin with checking and refilling, remember the EXXON VALDEZ all over again.
Another problem I found was having to re level the hives, then had water problems.

If you move your hives for pollination or honey flows forget it NOW.

The smaller AJs and frame traps are to small and have MAJOR propolis problems.

With cooler weather coming, watch out for raccoon's pulling trays out or off bottoms, they LOVE the oil.

TRY the bait traps and strips, quick easy effective.  But do something even above ^

VARROA MITES The Treatment Free Mite Farmers read this

A POST TO THE TREATMENT FREE Mite Farmers out there

: "The mites have gained the upper hand." Says Dr.Spivak, Randy Oliver writes more on BeeL
> > The treatment free crowd, as we know, creates a
> > reservoir for varroa to thrive and re-infest healthy
> > colonies. The live and let die approach is not
> > working, and varroa are a bigger problem than ever.
>

I have recently had the pleasure to hear Dr. Spivak, Dr. vanEngelsdorp, Dr.
Mussen, and two BIP tech team members speak (all independently and at
different venues than WAS) regarding the impact of "treatment free"
beekeepers upon the beekeeping community.

The essence of their messages matches the above summary. This is also the
overwhelming conclusion of most knowledgeable professional beekeepers.

> In her actual words: "The mites have gained the upper hand."

I don't recall her saying those specific words, but the most recent BIP
data clearly show that this is indeed appears to be the case across much of
the country. Mite levels this October, on average, are above the level at
which one would project good winter survival of colonies.

These experts are universally frustrated by beekeepers who continue to
blame colony mortality upon *anything* other than poor varroa management
(they are also clear that many colonies die from other, or contributing
factors, such as poor nutrition, starvation, other disease, or chemical
exposure).

At two venues I heard well-spoken commercial beekeeper John Miller float
the notion of "national treatment weeks" in order to coordinate mite
management across the country.

My take on the situation is that there is a storm brewing. The life
preserver of the commercial beekeeping industry, amitraz, appears to be
finally starting to fail. And the monstrous growth of the number of
recreational beekeepers, the majority of whom erroneously think that they
are helping to "save the bee" by not treating colonies started from
commercial stocks, is creating a reservoir of varroa that threaten *all*
colonies.

As I suggested in a recent presentation, there now seems to be a growing
conflict between bee-keepers and "mite farmers." I pity the poor bees.

ADVANTECH premium sub floor sheets for Beekeeping Beehive Migratory Tops, Georgia Beekeeper John Pluta 4x8 cutting pattern display
13 Bee Hive Top yield 10 ten frame and 3 eight frame Finished top both sides leaning up, painted on far left. Cuts to be safe try and get same saw operator if possible each time 20 1/8 to 1/4 three times for length pieces balance is 4 pieces cut sideways.
I never cut regular sideways against the grain, warping problems but since this is pressed have had no problems.

MY FIRST cuts after Lowe's is 7 inches from grooved female side then 16 1/2 twice with a 7 inch male piece glued into first for a 8 frame top. I have stopped making 5 frame nuc boxes only 8 frame now and 8 frame pollination equipment start up. The finished top hole is feeder.

The ONLY scrap is 1 1/2 inch from sideways cut $25 sheet gives 13 $2 tops,

TIP You need a sharpie marker It's so dense won't take pen pencil marks,
